Firms will be required to advertise jobs in the UK for a month before recruiting overseas, Home Secretary Alan Johnson said on Monday, in a move to ensure British workers are "first in line" for jobs.
At the moment, companies only have to advertise for two weeks in Britain before they can offer the role to a worker from outside the
European Union.
Starting next year, all jobs must be listed in Jobcentre Plus for four weeks, a Home Office statement said, in a bid to "ensure that British workers are not only first in line for jobs but also now have more time in
which to apply".
